This is mainly due to the very cool additional tools that upgrade the network storage from a pure data grab to a real all-rounder. Google Drive is easily accessible and may be a more feasible option for many users when compared with a Synology NAS (Network-Attached Storage).I've been a big fan of them for years Synology NAS systems. This is particularly true if you need the tool for a single purpose, like backing up data. Google Drive could be your best bet for purposes requiring less than a terabyte of data. It has plenty of integrated bells and whistles, and the introductory rates are affordable. It all boils down to how much value you place on your personal or business data and how important it is to keep your files in your own storage space instead of in someone else's cloud servers. However, you don't need to pay a monthly fee when you have a NAS of your own, but there's an upfront cost attached, and it's a hefty one. Even if you pay a monthly fee for Google Drive, it takes years to match what you'll pay for your own network storage. Because Synology is a big wimpy at times.īUT their software is great and their hardware nothing to sneer at albeit not leading edge. The DS1821+ Has strong expansion options. And 2x 32gb ecc memory and it recognizes it all and runs excellent. What took days on my DS1517 now takes me. My DSM is always available whereas I used to get tons of time outs. I also added 1 DS517 expansion module and a 10GbE. Note that Synology lists compatible hardware but it doesn?t means that if things aren?t on the list it?s not compatible.
Overall this machine w 320$ in extra upgrades (2x nvme and 2 x 32 gb ram) is top end speed. I recommend 2x16gb and save yourself some money.
I used basic ecc and it works despite they claiming non-ecc is needed (non-ecc is junky).
